Katy B!

Hey You Lot,

How is everyone doing? Enjoying the holidays? I hope so, I know I sure did. They were just over way too quick. I'm defintiely not ready to be back at work yet. So to everyone still on holidays, lucky you! For everyone else, trust me you are not alone.

This year has been an amazing year for music. There have been some absolute bangers released...and I think, it's time we celebrate that.

One of the biggest summer smashes this year came from a little lady by the name of Katy B.

Her debut single Katy on a Mission, a collaboration with Dubstep DJ/Producer Benga, garnered huge praise from both listeners and critics alike. This track along with songs like I Need Air by Magentic Man, were responsible bringing dubstep to the mainstream, giving listeners who wouldn't normally have found out about this genre, something to think about.

Katy on a Mission hit number five on the UK singles chart after its release which is an incredible feat for a dubstep tune. The song also hit number one on the UK Dance and Indie charts.

This song is a mash up of two genres, dubstep and pop music, I guess you could almost call it pop step.

Look out for Katy B's debut record in the new year, it promises to be amazing.

Enjoy!

Hey All,

So it's almost Christmas! Got your shopping done? If not, then my prayers be with you...also, try not to kill anybody.

So how is everyone?! It's been a good week, no work, and thankfully it hasn't been too cold. It works for me.

Alright, so today I've got a winter roller of a track for you. Time for some super classy house music, courtesy of Dennis Ferrer.

Dennis Ferrer is a New York based DJ, and founder of the Objektivity record label; which is also home to artists like The Martinez Brothers, Karizma (DJ), and Filsonik.

The follow up to his Grammy nominated single, Hey Hey, is called Red Room.

Another day...another song!

Hey All,

It's Tuesday...Tuesday...You know, no matter how many times you say it, it still isn't Friday, in fact it seems far from. Oh well.

So how is everyone? Things are good here! Over the weekend BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra had a dubstep take over; they had a bunch of the DJs from both stations present shows about the biggest dubstep of 2010, to the history of dubstep, to the direction that it seems to be going. It is definitely worth a listen.

That just seemed like some news worth sharing, however our post today is not about dubstep.

Robyn hit the North American music scene in 1995 with her debut record, Robyn Is Here. She garnerd some major fame with this release; the record spawned two top ten singles: Do You Know (What It Takes) and Show Me Love. The record was also certified Platinum, selling over 900k copies by mid 1997.

After the release of Robyn Is Here, Robyn released two more records in Sweden before we saw her return on this side of the pond in 2008.

Robyn's self titled fourth record, was released in the UK and Europe in 2005, and was then re-released with an updated track listing for the US and Canada in early 2008.

2010 has been a HUGE year for Robyn. She released two EPs and an LP as part of a project referred to as the Body Talk Series. Both Body Talk Pt.1 and Pt.2 contained eight tracks, while the final release of the project, an LP simply called Body Talk, contained five songs from the each of the first two releases as well as five new songs.

Robyn also performed at the MTV VMAs this year along side Canadian DJ, Deadmau5; and she has also been touring the US and Europe with R&B turned dance songstress, Kelis.

Today's post is the A-Trak remix of the first single from Body Talk, called Indestructible.

After hearing what A-Trak was able to do with the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Heads Will Roll, last year, you know this remix will be epic.

Enjoy it!

Welcome....the weekend!

Heyo,

So, how we all doin'? It's the end the of week, and the beginning of the weekend! Are we feeling alright? Good!

Anyone else feeling like Christmas is coming up a little too quickly? I guess that's what I get for putting off my shopping...I wait too long to start and by the time I do the shops are crazy and it takes FOREVER to get it done. I would like to say that I'll learn my lesson and do it earlier next year, but, if we're going to be honest, I probably won't.

Time for some new music...or rather, a remix of something from quite a while back. This one is for all the old ravers!

Originally released in 1996 on the FFRR record label, I'm Alive by Stretch & Vern was a bouncy house classic. The song took clubs by storm, hitting number two on the Billboard Charts.

It's been nearly fifteen years and it's time to dust off the record and give it another go, but not without some re-editing of course! The song is being re-released on a new EP from Ministry of Sound on Sunday (December 2nd) and also includes, on top of the 2010 Club Remix, remixes done by DJs including Thomas Gandey and Louis La Roche.

Enjoy this throw-back and the weekend that is upon us!

Through the ice and snow...

Hey All,

I'm sorry! It has been way too long since my last post! Things have been a bit ridiculous, you know, blizzards and such. Cars no longer work here; we've had to rely on dog sleds to get to work. Well...okay, maybe not, but it feels like it's coming. Honestly, it's only December 1st and there is so much snow on the ground!

So today's song...well I've got something chill, a bit of a departure from some of the other songs we've seen on the blog so far, but definitely worth the listen.

After short lived relationship with Capitol Records and a bit of hiatus, Faith Evans is back and has collaborated with one of rap's biggest hit makers, Snoop Dogg.

The song is called Way You Move. This track is a smooth roller, something you can chill to.

Tensnake!

Hello everyone!

So two days in, three more to go! It's kind of funny that I very often reference the day of the week in my posts...most of the time, in a positive way, regardless of what day it is. I guess I feel...you should just enjoy them all. Find a way to make the whole week worth it. For example, who says you can't go raving on a Monday night? Nobody, that's who!

Alright, so one of the big artists for me this year is Tensnake. His summer smash Coma Cat rocked dancefloors around the world; it's a fun, bouncy, infectious house track, definitely something to get you movin'. The Round Table Knights remix of it is epic, so be sure to check that out.

Tensnake is a German DJ/Producer from Hamurg, Germany whose music is heavily influenced by Italian Disco and 80's Boogie. He has also got his own record label, Mirau Musik and Glossy.

His new song, Holding Back (My Love), is more down tempo and chill than Coma Cat, but it is oh so good!

...

Okay...so I've just made a decision...I'm also going to post the Round Table Knights remix of Coma Cat, because that song helped define the summer for me and should have been posted long ago! So today you get a double dose!

Enjoy!

'Cause we can have it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall!

Good Monday Afternoon to Everyone!

So it's time to begin the week! Now, I know that Monday's never seem like a good idea to anyone, but hey, they have to happen. If it weren't for them, then we would hate on Tuesday's, and we can't have that.

Enough of my mindlessness, time for some music.

Today's artist is a big player in the game; he has been essential to the big return of drum & bass, being a front runner in the genre for a long time. I can only be talking about the one and only...Danny Byrd.

One of the first artists signed to Hospital Records in 2000, he was championed by BBC Radio 1's Fabio for his remix of London Elektricity's song, Wishing Well.

This year sees the second full length LP release by Danny Byrd called, Rave Digger. The album is full of big tunes that definitely have their roots in drum & bass, while also taking from old school piano house and rave music.

This is the follow up to his insanely popular single Ill Behaviour, called We Can Have It All, Sigma on the remix.

Run to the Roof!

Hey All,

It's Friday! The weekend is finally here! So I've got a new tune for you that I've defintiely been diggin' this week.

The song today is from an artist by the name of Maverick Sabre.

I'm not too familiar with him yet. I recently downloaded his mixtape, Traveling Man, and one of the stand out tracks for me so far is called, Run to the Roof.

Part hip hop, and part grime, while also using what sounds like some chase music out of an old 1940s film, the intensity of the song goes back and forth, moving from a harder feel to something more soulful and flowing.

Homegrown!

Hey All,

Wonky techno tiiiiiiiiiiiiime! Let's get in it!

So, today we've got a release from a collaboration between Canadian techno wizard Tiga, and Munich based Zombie Nation (aka Florian Senfter).

Over the course of the past few months we've really seen an increase of the offerings released from big house and rave DJs like Tiga and Afrojack. Their brand of big festival bangers is really becoming quite addictive.

This collaboration began in 2007 when the duo released their first EP on Tiga's label, Turbo, entitled Lower State of Consciousness. Since then they have released two more EPs on Turbo, The Worm in 2008, and more recently Afrika, on October 5th of this year.

Afrika is a big, bouncy house track that will defintiely get you dancin'.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaanger!

Hey Everyone!

Time for a new post! So today I've got something a little bit harder for you.

Chase & Status are a drum & bass/dubstep duo from London, who made a big impact on the dance floors with their first record More Than A Lot. Their music is super high energy and it definitely doesn't sound like anything else out there. Their second record, No More Idols will be released in the late part of 2010.

The first single from their sophmore album, Let You Go, is a four on the floor club track that drops into dubstep halfway through. The song features a newly discovered talent name Mali, who is only seventeen. From his performance on the single, you would never know it. He has a voice that sounds like it is seasoned, acquired through years of experience.

The song I'm posting today is another offering from their new record called: Hypest Hype, and features MC, Tempa T. It's a real banger, so enjoy it!

Double dose for the Halloween Weekend!

Hey All,

Friday is here people! It is the halloween weekend so I'm sure many of you are finding a party or a rave to go to. In celebration of the partying that is to come, I've got two songs for you today. The first one...a big certified banger designed to make you dance. The second one, a chilled out tune that is sure to mellow you out on the drive home from whatever parties or clubs you are going to this weekend.

Let's get in it.

Underworld is an electronic band from the UK that formed in the early 80's. They have countless releases under their belt. Their newest record focuses heavily on the dance floor.

Always Loved a Film is the second single from Underworld's new record, Barking. The Solo remix is a bouncy house track that will definitely get you in the mood to dance.

Time for some 8-bit!

Hey All,

Time for something random and fun! Friday is here people, bring on the music!

Today's tune comes to us from an artist called Unicorn Kid. An electronic/8-bit DJ from Edinburgh, Unicorn Kid (real name, Oliver Sabin) was signed to EMI in 2009, releasing his music on the Euphonios label. He has since been signed to Ministry of Sound (and Ultra Records in the US and Canada).

Since he made an appearance at T in the Park in 2009 (an annual music festival that is held in Scotland), Oliver has opened up for artists including Calvin Harris, Pet Shop Boys and Hadouken!; while also remixing for artists like the Gorillaz.

Our song today is called Wild Life. This song sounds like it came out of an old school Atari or Nintendo game. It's something I have been really diggin' this week!

Time for something big and epic!

Hey All,

Happy Wednesday! The week is nearly half over which means that we only have a couple more days until the weekend.

In anticipation of the upcoming weekend and the dancing that will inevitably happen, it is time for some big epic drum & bass.

Today's tune comes from Netsky; an up and coming drum & bass DJ from Belgium. Netsky was signed to Hospital Records in late 2009, a label that has signed other drum & bass and liquid artists including High Contrast and London Elektricity.

His self titled debut record was released in May of this year to very positive reviews. Memory Lane is a solid drum & bass tune that definitely showcases what Netsky is capable of. It's a chilled out track, and I know that since I came across it a couple of months ago, it has been on high rotation on my iPod.

This one's BIIIIIIIIIIIG!

Hey All,

It's Monday, so it's back to the grind, but that's okay...time for some new music to get you through the week.

Alright, time for something BIG!

One of this summer's biggest smashes was brought to us by Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP from Australia, and it is called...We No Speak Americano.

Released in February of this year, We No Speak Americano samples from the 1950's track; Tu Vuo Fa L'americano, by Renato Carosone. This song is almost as classy as house music gets, it's infectious and it is sure to blow up on any dance floor.

Being played in high rotation on radio stations and dance floors around the world, this song is an undeniable smash, made to get you dancin'.

This song should have made it to the blog a long time ago, but it's here now! So...

Your words to me are like music...

Hey All,

So what do you get...when you have Magnetic Man, remixed by Steve Angello? Pure gold, that's what!

The collaboration of Skream, Benga and Artwork; better known as Magentic Man started a few years ago. 2010 has been a MASSIVE year for them. The first single from their self titled debut record, I Need Air, hit number ten on the UK singles chart, which is quite an impressive feat for essentially a dubstep tune! They have been playing all of the major festivals this summer, and their debut record has just been released on Columbia Records.

I've recently come across a remix of Perfect Stranger, the second single from the album featuring Katy B, remixed by Steve Angello, and...I cannot get enough of it!

Steve Angello took this song and flipped it over on it's head, creating something completely different!

Time for some dirty electro!

Hey All,

So I decided it's time for a post. I came upon a song last week and it has been in heavy rotation for me since then. It's definitely a wicked listen, so check it out.

I'm not too familiar with our artists today, I've only just been introduced to them.

Joe & Will Ask? were signed to Gulp Communications in 2008, after making some noise in the European dance scene in 2007. Their music was so well received by clubbers and DJs because it seemed as though these two DJs had a clear outcome of what they wanted achieve with their production. Their music was catered to club goers, big epic bangers that were sure to get everybody dancin'. Their music quickly spread all over European dance floors because it was infectious, you couldn't not dance to it.

This song is one of their more recent releases, and it is called...Rainbow Trout.

I put on my shoes, and I'm ready for the weekend!

Hey All,

It's Friday! Bring on the weekend!

Unfortunately I woke up this morning feeling like death warmed up...but I am not ready to pass on my weekend because of it! I'm currently trying out some of those cold remedies to feel better. You know, tea and honey...some halls.

Anyways, to the music! This is a post I'm pretty stoked about! Time for some music from one of my favourite DJ/producers...Calvin Harris.

Calvin Harris' first LP, I Created Disco, was released in June 2007. With two singles; Acceptable in the 80's and The Girls hitting the top ten, it can't be denied that Calvin Harris' brand of electro-pop music is something very unique.

Since the release of his first record Calvin Harris has been in big demand to produce and remix for other artists. He produced Dizzee Rascal's 2008 number one single, Dance Wiv Me. He also produced some of the tracks featured on Kylie Minogue's tenth studio record, X.

In a  recent Twitter post Calvin Harris announced that he would be performing his last ever live show with the full band at Creamfields (a festival that took place in August this year). He said that he feels a little bit old to be performing some of his songs like The Girls. He also said in a recent interview with Annie Mac, that the live show just isn't what he wants to do anymore.

He has no plans to quit music, he really enjoys DJing and has plans to put together DJ shows and tour in that capacity. I really hope that we continue to see him remix and produce for other artists as well.

In celebration of Canadian Thanksgiving Day weekend, it's time for some Calvin Harris' music. Very appropriately named Ready for the Weekend.

So it's Wednesday...time for some choones!

Hey All,

So a new day, a new tune! Let's get in it!

Benga is easily one of the heavy hitters of dubstep. He was one of the first DJs to actively work towards bringing dubstep to the mainstream in the early 2000's.

This summer was big for Benga; he produced a song for Katy B's debut record called Katy on a Mission. A mix between pop music and dubstep, it quickly became a hit and received lots of radio play.

As well as producing, he spent a lot of time touring and playing festivals with his Magentic Man bandmates, Skream and Artwork.

Today's tune comes from a collaboration that Benga did with and Youngman.

Heidi and Audrina eat your heart out...

Hey All,

So it is time to introduce some grime and hip hop into this blog. It’s been a few weeks now, so the time seems about right.

This post is all about one artist…Tinie Tempah…easily this year’s breakout musical act from the UK.

Grime has been a staple of the London underground scene for quite a while now, and in the past few years we have seen more and more artists nearing the mainstream charts; most notably, Dizzee Rascal. Since then artists like Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder have released their own brand of grime/hip-hop, but none of them have created as much buzz as Tinie Tempah.

Released commercially on March 1, 2010, Pass Out is Tinie Tempah’s first single. Written and produced in collaboration with UK hip hop singer and producer Labrinth, Pass Out debuted on the UK singles charts at number one, and remained there for two weeks before being knocked off the of the top spot.

Pass Out is high energy grime track that has helpded launch Tinie Tempah to stardom, and it promises to blow up any dance floor.

Bang...bang...bang...!

Hey All,

Mark Ronson is back. Ronson is the producer responsible for Amy Winehouse's second and highly successful record: Back To Black.

For his third record, Ronson has put together a live band and has since started working under the alias of Mark Ronson & The Business International. The full band spent much of this summer touring and playing festivals to promote his third record, Record Collection.

The first single from this release was put out to radio and iTunes on July 11, 2010. It features Q-Tip, a hip hop artist from Queens, and Amanda Warner, singer from a New York electronic act named MNDR.

This waranted a double post today!

Hey All,

So I may have already posted today, but I came across something that definitely waranted a second post.

European DJ/producer Afrojack's song, Take Over Control, remixed by English drum & bass DJ Adam F.

This remix is definitely going to be different from what you would think of, when you hear that Adam F remixed it. It's got an undeniable dubstep feel.

I wasn't sure what kind of music to expect after the wicked summer we had, but this is an amazing offering from Afrojack, with Adam F on the remix.

Hump Day! Bring on some dubstep!

White Lies is an alternative rock back from West London that formed in 2007.

The second single off of their debut record, To Lose My Life..., is called Death. The original song builds as it goes, adding more and more instruments eventually hitting a climax filled with guitars, drums and synths.

Chase & Status is a UK duo that began making music in 2003. Their earlier work was more along the lines of drum & bass, releasing songs like Love's Theme. Since then, they have expanded their offerings into other genres, including dubstep.

Chase & Status were asked to remix this White Lies song for the 2009 re-issue of their 2008 single. Their remix of Death is an amazing song, it changes the tone quite a bit and in my opinion it definitely improves on the original. This chilled out dubstep tune is definitely worth the listen.

What you talkin' about?!

Hey All,

So it's Tuesday and it is time now...for something really fresh.

DJ/Producer Redlight is kind of magician of beats. Redlight (real name: Hugh Pescod) doesn't conform to any sort of stigma or mold, he is a musician of many talents who likes to experiment with different genres. He once said in an interview with Annie Mac that the music he decides to create, really depends on the day.

Ms. Dynamite is an MC/rapper from London who found fame with her first record: A Little Deeper. Released in 2002, this record went on to win the Mercury Music Prize that year. The Mercury Prize is an annual award given to and act from the UK or Ireland for 'Album of the Year'. She has since released a second record and worked on numerous collaborations including 2009's Wile Out, with DJ Zinc.

Today's entry, What You Talkin' About, was a big club track this summer, garnering a lot of praise from DJs and earning itself a lot of play time on radio. This song is a bass heavy dance floor monster, made even better by Ms. Dynamite's astounding vocal performance.

Day one of a new week, been and gone...

Hey All,

So the first day of the week has been and gone, leaving only four more to go! So let's bring on some new tunes for a new week!

This week we're starting things off with some very classy house music. Our first song comes from Cajmere (you may also know him as Green Velvet), and it is called Percolator, with Riva Starr on the remix.

Curtis Jones has numerous releases as both Cajmere and Green Velvet. His earlier music was considered to be more in the realm of a darker electronic style, but since 2007 his music has felt a lot more positive and upbeat, even remixing artists like Basement Jaxx and Madonna.

Since mid last year Riva Starr has been killing anything he touches. No one can compare to him in terms of the house music he is creating. His remix of Percolator is no exception, and is an upbeat house tune that is designed to make you dance.

FRIIIIIIIIIIIDAY!

It's FRIDAY! Finally the weekend is here, and it's time to leave the week behind and enjoy the weekend! What better way to start the weekend, than with some dubstep!

Jakwob is a dubstep producer hailing from across the pond. This UK DJ shot to fame after the release of his remix of Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding. He has sinced remixed other artists including: Little Boots, Empire of the Sun, Lily Allen and MIA. He is currently working on his debut record to be released on his own Boom Ting label. The first release from it is called Here With Me, and was released on September 13, 2010.

That I loved...Silvia...

Hey All!

So first off, sorry about the lack of a post yesterday, it was a bit of a busy day! However, we're back today, so let's get in it!

Swedish producers Bloodshy & Avant, best known for producing Toxic for Britney Spears, have teamed up with American producer Andrew Wyatt to create: Miike Snow.

Their self-titled, debut record was released late last year, encompassing everything from chill out tunes to tear out club and festival anthems.

Silvia, their third single, is a solid blend of synth beats and cool melodic vocals. This is one of those tunes that is tailor made for an evening of cruising in the car.

It's back to the grind on Monday...Business Casual with Chromeo!

Hey Everyone,

So the weekend is over and it's back to the grind, but that doesn't mean the music can't be good!

I'm thinking it's about time for some home grown talent on the blog. Chromeo is an electro-funk duo from Montréal, who have become famous because of their unique brand of music.

The Skream remix of Night by Night is definitely a departure from the original; it's a very chilled out approach to this song, but still works extremely well! One thing to pay attention to with this one...the guitar solo that comes in about halfway through is amazing! It lends itself so well to this remix!

Disco time!

Hey everyone, so it's time for today's post...and I'm pretty stoked about this one!

When you have a disco record collection to sample from like the one Boston born Armand Van Helden has, then pair that with one of the best Canadian electro house DJs; Montreal native A-Trak, you get: Duck Sauce.

In September they released their first LP titled Greatest Hits, under the name Duck Sauce. Their first single aNYway rocked the dance floors last year, and it really left the fans and DJs alike wanting more.

Their second single is a certified banger called Barbra Streisand. It samples from Gotta Go Home, released in 1979 by disco powerhouses Boney M.

Enjoy!

...BONKERS!

Dizzee Rascal is easily one of the biggest acts to come out of the UK in the past few years. His most recent full length record Tongue n' Cheek is full of certified bangers.

Dizzee worked with a bunch of different producers/DJs on this record including: Calvin Harris, Shy FX and even Tiesto. Today's entry however comes from a collaboration that Dizzee did with Armand Van Helden. Bonkers is the second single from Tongue n' Cheek a wicked club track that is sure to get everyone bumpin'.

Because it's day one...double dose: Swedish House Mafia and Tinie Tempah

Steve Angello...Sebastian Ingrosso...Axwell...together these three producers/DJs make up Swedish House Mafia.

This summer their single, 'One' featuring Pharrell was a certified smash. Their follow up single: 'Miami 2 Ibiza' features Tinie Tempah, the rapper from South London who came out of nowhere to take the charts by storm with his first single: 'Pass Out'. This is an amazing offering by the trio, definitely another bumpin' track.

Enjoy it.

Time to get started with the music. Introducing...Skream

Ollie Jones aka Skream is considered to be one of the pioneers of dubstep along with another producer and fellow 'Magentic Man' bandmate, Benga.

Skream's debut record 'Skream!' was released in 2006, and he hit mainstream success in 2007 when he produced the Let's Get Ravey Remix of 'In for the Kill' by La Roux. This remix is a release that really brought dubstep to the mainstream, giving a lot of people a taste of something they had never heard before.

His second record 'Outside the Box' was released on the Tempa label on August 9, 2010. The lead single 'Where You Should Be' is a bass heavy down tempo track featuring powerful soothing vocals by Sam Frank.

Enjoy.
